BTS’s ‘Butter’ Debuts At No. 1 On The Hot 100 With An Enormous First Frame - Forbes

It’s only been about six months since BTS last ruled over the Hot 100, but they are back at No. 1 once again with their latest release, which doesn’t just hit the top spot, it debuts in first place.

BTS’s “Butter” opens at No. 1 on this week’s Hot 100, Billboard’s ranking of the most-consumed and most popular songs in the U.S. The track is their fourth chart-topper in America, which is incredible, considering they only lifted to the peak spot for the first time less than a year ago.

“Butter” blasts onto the Hot 100 at No. 1 thanks to strong streaming figures, an impressive debut at radio and, more than anything else, an eye-popping sales sum. The cut was purchased 242,800 times (including 228,000 digital units) in its first seven days of availability, which easily stands out as the largest sales figure of the year. The English-language track racked up 34 million streams on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube (it made history on at least two of those in the past several days), and it reached an audience of 18 million people on radio stations across the U.S.

The South Korean septet first made it to No. 1 last September with their English-language smash “Dynamite,” which also opened as high as a cut can climb. The track went on to rule for three nonconsecutive turns, and it stands as the group’s only tune to control the list for more than one frame (at least so far).

Just two weeks after “Dynamite” stepped down from the summit for the last time, BTS returned to No. 1 on the Hot 100 alongside Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo on the catchy "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)," which was re-released with the septet on board.

In December, BTS landed their third No. 1 hit and their second immediate ruler on the Hot 100 with “Life Goes On,” which is sung almost entirely in Korean. That cut only managed one turn atop the ranking, but it was still enough for them to do what no other act had managed in history: dominate the most competitive singles chart in the U.S. with a song performed in their native tongue.

In addition to being BTS’s fourth No. 1, “Butter” is also the group’s seventh top 10 hit. They have also reached the highest region on the Hot 100 with “Fake Love,” “On” and “Boy With Luv,” a collaboration with pop singer Halsey.

At the moment, “Butter” serves as a standalone single, but chances are before 2021 is over it will be featured on the tracklist of a new album...though nothing has been announced just yet. The tune replaces last week’s champion, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U,” which also opened in first place. That track put up a good fight, as it actually improved in its performance (which is very rare for a tune that debuts atop the list), but nothing could beat BTS this time around.

Adblock test (Why?)
