BTS’s ‘Butter’ Is Already The Fifth-Longest-Running Hot 100 No. 1 This Decade - Forbes

Despite the fact that it is facing tough competition from the likes of Olivia Rodrigo’s former champion “Good 4 U,” Dua Lipa and DaBaby’s “Levitating” and even Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More,” BTS’s “Butter” continues to rule over the Hot 100 this frame. The insanely catchy cut has now led the charge on the most important singles ranking in the U.S. for five consecutive turns, and it could conceivably run the show for a while longer. 

With a fifth week to its credit, “Butter” now stands out as the fifth-longest-running No. 1 hit so far this decade. The 2020s may still be fairly new, but only a handful of tracks have performed as well as BTS’s latest (when looking specifically at how many weeks atop the tally they racked up), and the summer smash has already beaten some surprisingly popular tunes.

The longest-running No. 1 hit so far this decade is Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” which managed 11 weeks atop the Hot 100 before slowly declining in status in early 2020. It stands as the only release in the 2020s to rack up double-digit turns in first place.

A pair of poppy cuts are tied for the title of the second-longest-charting single in the 2020s decade, as the two held at No. 1 for eight weeks. Both 24kGoldn and Iann Dior’s “Mood” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” racked up nearly two months atop the Hot 100 before very slowly sliding backward.

Ricch makes another appearance on this list thanks to his collaboration with fellow hip-hop powerhouse DaBaby, as their joint single “Rockstar” lived at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for seven weeks last year. That makes it the fourth-longest-running leader on the chart so far this decade.

Last week, “Butter” was tied with two other chart-topping hits with four weeks apiece, but now it stands alone in fifth place when looking at how many frames these tunes have earned in charge of the ranking. Both Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” and The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” ruled over the Hot 100 for four frames, but it’s worth noting that the latter cut is still present on the list, and it is now the second-longest-charting song ever.

“Butter” is vying for a sixth week atop the Hot 100, and potentially even more, though it could possibly be replaced at No. 1 next week by “Kiss Me More,” “Good 4 U” or possibly Ed Sheeran’s new single “Bad Habits,” which is bound to enjoy a lofty beginning on the chart.
