BTS’ song ‘Butter’ has spent 3 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

“Butter” is BTS’ fourth song to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100. Before “Butter,” BTS achieved this with “Dynamite,” “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, and “Life Goes On.”

According to Billboard, BTS’ new single “drew 15.4 million U.S. streams, down 19%, and sold 138,400 downloads, down 1%, in the week ending June 10, according to MRC Data. It also attracted 24.6 million radio airplay audience impressions, up 10%, in the week ending June 13.”

Billboard continued: “‘Butter’ equals BTS’ best Hot 100 command among the act’s four No. 1s, as the group’s first leader, ‘Dynamite,’ spent its first two weeks on the chart at the top spot in September 2020 and returned for a third week in the lead in October. With ‘Butter,’ BTS thus rules the Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks for the first time.”

For the past three weeks, Olivia Rodrigo’s song “Good 4 U” has remained at No. 2 behind “Butter” on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Billboard, “‘Butter’ and ‘Good 4 U’ mark the first set of songs to rank at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, on the Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks in 2021.”

‘Butter’ is shaping up to be BTS’ most successful song yet

Before “Butter,” BTS’ most commercially successful single on the Billboard Hot 100 was “Dynamite.” BTS released the English-language single in August 2020, and the song spent three non-consecutive weeks at No. 1. If “Butter,” BTS’ second English-language single, achieves any future weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, it will officially surpass the success of “Dynamite” on the chart.

Already, “Butter” broke a YouTube record that BTS previously set with “Dynamite.” In 2020, the “Dynamite” music video became the most-viewed video within its first 24 hours on YouTube with 101.1 million views. But according to a press release, the “Butter” music video achieved 108.2 million views in its first 24 hours, breaking the previous record.

When “Butter” debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook issued a statement via a press release, saying:

“We released ‘Butter’ to bring a fun song that anyone can enjoy. We’re happy and honored that the song reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 again. We wouldn’t have gotten our fourth chart topping song without everyone’s love and support. Thank you for enjoying ‘Butter’ and we will keep working hard to deliver refreshing and passionate music.”
