BTS made that look easy.
The K-pop group dominated Billboard’s songs of summer chart with its second English-language single Butter.
The annual chart tracks the most popular songs from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year’s charts dated June 12 through Sept. 11) based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100.
BTS’ Butter held firm at the No. 1 position for the duration of the seasonal chart, Billboard announced Tuesday. That same day, BTS retook the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 chart, thanks to the fiery Megan Thee Stallion remix. This marks the 10th week seeing Butter at the summit.
So who else landed on the 20-position songs of summer chart?
Olivia Rodrigo’s Good 4 U came in second, followed by Dua Lipa’s Levitating. Doja Cat’s Kiss Me More, featuring SZA took the No. 4 spot and The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s Save Your Tears took fifth.
10 BTS songs that are totally underappreciated
Spots six through 10 were: Lil Nas X’s Montero (Call Me by Your Name); Rodrigo’s Deja Vu; Justin Bieber’s Peaches, featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon; Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak)‘s Leave the Door Open; and The Kid Laroi and Bieber’s Stay.
Butter is the first single to win the song of summer title by a duo or group in a decade, according to Billboard. The last time we saw a duo/group atop the chart was when LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock ruled in 2011. It’s also the first song to sweep a season since Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road featuring Billy Ray Cyrus reigned supreme in 2019.
Topping the charts (again) isn’t all BTS accomplished with Butter. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, V, Jimin and Jungkook used their superstar glow to break a handful of world records.

The song’s music video was the biggest premiere in YouTube history, drawing in 3.9 million concurrent viewers for its May 21 premiere. BTS broke its own record that was set when Dynamite attracted 3 million concurrent viewers, according to the official YouTube blog.
Our thoughts when we saw “Butter” for the first time
The video also set a new all-time record for YouTube video views in the first 24 hours, garnering over 108.2 million in the first day, according to YouTube. (No surprise, but the previous record holder was BTS when Dynamite got 101.1 million in 24 hours.) As of publication, the video had more than 543 million views.
Earlier this month, BTS’ 23 records earned the group a spot in the Guinness World Records 2022 Hall of Fame.
