South Korean superstars NCT 127 just released their new album Sticker today (September 17), and even before any fan could rush out to pick up a copy in a store (which is still common practice in the country), it has become not just a huge success for the band, but one of the bestselling releases of all time in the nation.
According to Naver, Sticker racked up an eye-watering 2.12 million sales during its pre-order period. That figure is enormous, but anyone carefully watching how well the set performed the moment it was made available for fans to buy before it dropped shouldn’t be too shocked. In just the first day followers could pre-order the project, it sold more than one million copies, making it a certified bestseller in only a matter of hours.
Sticker has now outperformed the band’s previous full-length album, Neo Zone, by a massive margin. That set was pre-ordered by at least half a million fans, which is still a huge sum, but obviously it doesn't compare to their success this time around.
With more than two million copies of their new release already purchased, NCT 127 is all but guaranteed to score another No. 1 on the Gaon Albums chart when it refreshes in a week. Sticker seems poised to debut in the top spot, and when it does, it will become the band’s seventh leader on the tally and their ninth top 10 placement.
NCT 127 is already one of the biggest names in the South Korean music industry, and they still find a way to hit new highs and improve their numbers with each release. The band is one of a relatively small number to score a top 10 album in the U.S., and they may be on track to doing so again with Sticker, depending on how it performs in that territory, considering it was released in the middle of a tracking period.
Sticker will surely be quickly certified for selling millions of copies, and in about a month, it will likely become just the eighth album in South Korean history to earn a rare and coveted two million certification.
