Kong Gets Replaced By A Cat In Hilarious GvK Trailer Edit - Screen Rant

A hilarious fan-made Gozilla vs. Kong trailer edit recently posted on social media is for cat people only. Excitement is building for the action movie directed by Adam Wingard, which is coming soon to theaters and streaming. The movie is part of HBO Max's deal with Warner Bros. and will thus be released in theaters as well as on HBO Max simultaneously. The international premiere date was recently moved up to March 25, while the domestic release is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31.

The monstrous reunion has been highly anticipated since it was announced in 2015 that Legendary would merge the universes occupied by the two beasts of land and sea. Both Godzilla and King Kong have enjoyed on-screen success with their own separate franchises, each with films in the double-digits. Their upcoming battle is significant because it will be the first time the two iconic movie monsters have gone head-to-head since 1962 in Japan's King Kong vs. Godzilla. The first trailer for the movie amped up fan excitement by promising an epic face-off and plenty of building-smashing, as the abnormally large creatures are wont to do.

An unlikely contender now enters the arena in a recent Twitter fan trailer posted by OwlKitty, an account that has edited the same cat into other iconic movies. The video impressively edits a cat into all of Kong's shots to predictably hilarious effects. The accompanying tweet includes the quote, "OwlKitty bows to no one," a parody of the awestruck line about Kong. Watch the full trailer below, but be warned: this video is for cat people only.

The fake trailer doesn't miss a detail, from offering Kat Kong a can of cat food to replacing all of the gorilla's growls with meows. Between the two original fighters, Kong was the obvious choice to replace, considering the similarly hairy textures shared by a cat and a gorilla. A shot of Kong jumping in the air as Godzilla shoots blue lighting was particularly compatible with the feline stretches cat owners are all too familiar with. Antsy fans are clearly going crazy with their own content with anticipation for the movie at an all-time high; fortunately, some serious gems have been produced during the waiting period.

The premiere date for Godzilla vs. Kong has been moved around a dizzying amount since the movie entered production: the movie was first meant to debut almost a year ago and was pushed back multiple times. After COVID-19 delayed the premiere to May 21 of this year, WarnerMedia finally nudged the release in the other direction. The upcoming film stars a slate of famous faces including Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgård, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Rebecca Hall. Director Adam Wingard recently confirmed Mechagodzilla will also appear in the film but, beyond that, there hasn't been much information on which Titans might appear. Perhaps a certain oversized domesticated feline will be making her debut.
