Justin Bieber And The Kid Laroi Conquer The Hot 100 With ‘Stay’ - Forbes

Just four weeks into its time on the Hot 100, The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” has already become a chart-topper, and a very important one at that for one of the musicians.

“Stay” jumps from No. 4, where it sat last frame, to the Hot 100’s summit. In doing so, it replaces BTS’s “Butter” atop the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S., ending the summer smash’s successful run at the top. The South Korean septet’s winner led the charge for nine nonconsecutive turns, making it the longest-running leader of 2021.

Now that “Stay” has climbed as high as a tune can on the Hot 100, The Kid Laroi has completed a surge to the summit on Billboard’s two most important charts one right after another. Last week, the singer-songwriter sent his debut album F*ck Love to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 more than one year after it was first released. The project bolted to the peak position thanks to the fact that several new songs were added to the ever-expanding tracklist, including “Stay,” which was released shortly before the rest of the new tunes were unleashed. Now, he’s reached the top spot on the Hot 100 as well, completing a chart double of sorts.

“Stay” is The Kid Laroi’s first No. 1 on the Hot 100 and it’s one of just two top 10s for the Australian export. His single “Without You” lifted to No. 8 after Miley Cyrus hopped on board a new mix of the cut.

While The Kid Laroi may be new to the Hot 100’s peak, the same certainly can’t be said for Bieber, who has occupied the No. 1 space many times before. “Stay” is the Canadian pop star’s eighth leader on the competitive ranking and his second of 2021. Bieber has previously topped the Hot 100 with all of the following hits: "What Do You Mean?," “Sorry,” “Love Yourself,” “Despacito” with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, “I’m the One” with DJ Khaled, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, "Stuck with U" with Ariana Grande and most recently “Peaches” with Daniel Caesar and Giveon. “Stay” is also Bieber’s 24th top 10 smash on the tally.

“Stay” jumps to No. 1 thanks to gains in all important metrics week-over-week. The tune is up 16% in radio impressions (31.9 million), just 1% when it comes to streams (30.9 million, enough to make it the most-streamed song in the U.S.) and a whopping 70% in purchases, as the cut was bought by 14,400 fans in the past tracking frame.
