NCT 127’s New Album Sold One Million Copies In One Day - Forbes

NCT 127’s new album Sticker isn’t slated to drop for more than three weeks, but it has already become a bestseller in the band’s home country of South Korea, proving once again that they rank as one of the most popular musical acts in the nation...and beyond.

The boy group’s forthcoming album Sticker was just recently made available for fans to preorder, and their massive following rushed to secure their copy in enormous numbers. According to Naver, NCT 127’s new full-length sold 1.329 million copies in just the first day it was available to order.

It’s not uncommon for highly-anticipated projects from the biggest names in the South Korean music industry to rack up hundreds of thousands of sales or even preorders when they’re first made available, as the market is still focused squarely on purchases, as opposed to streams, which many Western territories have transitioned to. While large sales counts are common, selling one million CDs in a single day is nearly unheard of, and only the most successful acts can come close to reaching that milestone.

Sticker will be NCT 127’s third Korean-language full-length and their fourth overall, as they have released one Japanese project as well. The title is set to be promoted with lead single “Sticker,” which could easily become a huge hit as well.

With more than one million preorders already logged, Sticker is all but guaranteed to open at No. 1 on the South Korean charts. When it does, it will bring NCT 127 back to the top spot on the Gaon Albums ranking for the seventh time, and the title will instantly become their ninth top 10 in the country.

While sales figures specific to the American market aren’t yet available, Sticker could easily become another major success on the Billboard 200 when it arrives in about a month. NCT 127 barely missed out on the top 10 on the all-encompassing albums ranking in 2019 when their EP We Are Superhuman peaked at No. 11, and then last year their full-length Neo Zone rose to No. 5, making them one of only a handful of South Korean boy groups to break into the loftiest tier on the tally. They stand a very good chance of repeating that showing next month, as Sticker is off to an incredible start, and promotion is just beginning.
