A new poster for Marvel's What If...? highlights Captain Carter taking her place as the Allies' greatest hero.
The poster, drawn by British artist Freya Betts, sees a propaganda poster for Captain America being torn away, revealing a corresponding one for Captain Carter underneath. It was shared to the official Marvel Entertainment Twitter account with the caption, "Check out the first in a series of posters inspired by Marvel Studios' What If...? and get ready to see Peggy Carter in a whole new way when the Original Series starts streaming August 11 on Disney+."
The new variant of Peggy Carter will come out of a story where she receives the super soldier serum originally meant for Steve Rogers and goes on to fight the forces of tyranny as Captain Britain. Hayley Atwell appeared as Peggy Carter in the first two Captain America movies, the TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the 2013 short film Agent Carter the show of the same name and will reprise the role in What If...? for Disney+.
Executive producer Brad Winderbaum has promised that Captain Carter's story will grow and play out over multiple seasons of What If...? "We realized, I think, early on in development as we were starting to get [A.C. Bradley's] scripts and starting to look at the arc of the series that there was going to be a character that bubbled up and became more important," he said. "Not more important than the rest, but had a strong relationship with The Watcher, who is really our driving force behind the series, and that's Captain Carter."
It has also been rumored that Atwell will return to the live-action side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain Britain for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
What If...? will premiere Aug. 11 on Disney+.
