To add another bullet point to their live performance resume, BTS will be performing on MTV’s Unplugged series tonight (Feb. 23) at 9:00 pm E.T. to celebrate the recent Feb. 19 release of their Be (Essential Edition) album.
Before tonight’s premiere, here's a refresher of BTS’ recent tour of America. Watch eight of the boy band’s most memorable performances below.
The Late Late Show with James Corden
Right before the pandemic hit, BTS released their fourth studio album Map of the Soul: 7 in Feb. 2020. As part of their promotional tour, the act made a pit stop on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke – a favorite booking for A-listers. In the segment (aired on Feb. 25), viewers were treated to a cover of Post Malone’s “Circles,” RM revealing that he learned English after watching the TV show Friends, and even a dance class led by Jimin.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
In the same month as BTS’ Carpool Karaoke, the group cleared NYC’s Grand Central Station for a one-of-a-kind performance of “On” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. With a high-energy routine featuring an edgy marching band, BTS flexed their precision as dancers in one of America’s most famous landmarks.
MTV Video Music Awards
Nine days after the release of “Dynamite,” BTS first performed the single on MTV’s stage for the 2020 VMAs. Beaming in from South Korea, BTS sang and danced in front of a projection of New York’s famous features, including Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, and a backdrop of the New York City skyline complete with animated fireworks.
America’s Got Talent
BTS appeared on an episode of America’s Got Talent (aired on Sept. 16) for another high-production performance of their disco-pop hit “Dynamite.” For AGT, the septet was filmed in their most American set yet -- featuring retro scenes of vintage cars, a carnival, and a traditional-looking diner. To complete the look, the members were dressed in classic blue jeans.
The Billboard Music Awards
In August 2020, BTS released their very first English-language track “Dynamite,” which became the explosive pop single of the summer and earned them their first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Upon its release, BTS paraded the song on many of 2020’s awards shows, including the BBMAs in October of last year. Clad in matching maroon suits, the act took home the award for top social artist in addition to performing “Dynamite” on stage.
YouTube’s Dear Class Of 2020
Appearing alongside big names -- like Michelle and Barack Obama, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga -- BTS made a splash on YouTube’s Dear Class of 2020, a virtual event for recent graduates missing out on in-person ceremonies due COVID-19. Premiering on June 7, BTS took the stage with “Boy With Luv,” “Spring Day,” and “Mikrokosmos.” As a bonus, each member delivered their own heartfelt commencement speech in both English and Korean.
NPR’s Tiny Desk
In contrast to their usual visually stunning and highly-produced performances, BTS stripped it back for a lowkey set at NPR’s Tiny Desk on Sept. 21. In a more intimate setting, members took a break from choreography and sang “Dynamite,” “Save Me,” and “Spring Day” with bedazzled microphones in hand.
Good Morning America
In November, BTS dropped their own made-in-quarantine album Be led by the slowed down single “Life Goes On,” which became the first Korean-language track to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100. To match the vibes from music video accompanying “Life Goes On,” BTS invited their fans to a pajama party-themed appearance on Good Morning America on Nov. 26. On the show, the group performed their quarantine hit in silk pajamas and bathrobes as the camera panned from different rooms in a house, including the bedroom, living room, and around the dining table in the kitchen.
