A new clip offers a first look at BTS’ hotly-anticipated MTV Unplugged special, which airs next Tuesday, February 23 at 9:00 pm EST. In the stripped-down set, the K-pop stars offer an intimate performance of their latest No.1 hit, “Life Goes On,” off their new album, BE, which also debuted atop the Billboard 200.
The nearly 30-second video finds RM, Jungkook, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and V looking collegiate in coordinating khaki suits, while each of the boys holds a different-colored sparkly microphone. A masked backing band accompanies the group on keyboards, bass, drums, and acoustic guitar.
Filmed in Seoul, South Korea, MTV Unplugged Presents: BTS will showcase a different side of the group, as they reimagine selections from BE, as well as earlier favorites.
Today, the band released the “Essential Edition” of BE, which offers the same tracklist but features a variety of new packaging components.
Last year, BTS soared to new heights with the release of the English-language “Dynamite.” The song became the group’s first No.1 single in the US and broke records as the first single by an all-South Korean act to top the chart. In addition to smashing several streaming records, the song also garnered rave reviews, ranking as one of the best songs of 2020 in year-end round-ups by the New York Times, Rolling Stone, the NME, NPR, and Billboard, among others. Placing the song at No.3, Consequence of Sound called it a “joyful escape in a year in desperate need of such earworms…[it] gleefully rips any negative feelings from your grip.”
“Dynamite” is currently nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Not only is this the band’s first Grammy nod, but it also marks the first-ever Grammy nomination for a K-pop group.
Thus far, the song has scored more than a dozen wins at such ceremonies as the People’s Choice Awards, the Japan Record Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and the Asia Artist Awards.
