The 2021 Grammy Awards have stirred up controversy since they announced their nominations in November. The Weeknd immediately voiced his feelings toward the Recording Academy after he received zero (!!) nominations for his album After Hours. His single “Blinding Lights” (maybe you’ve heard of it) made history as the first song to spend a year on the Hot 100’s top 10 list. Despite the success, he was still overlooked by the awards show.
In a statement to the New York Times, The Weeknd said he will no longer submit music to the Grammys. “Because of the secret committees,” he revealed, “I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys.”
