Being a K-pop idol can be a physically demanding job, especially because of all the complicated dance moves idols are expected to do. Suga of BTS seems to understand this well as he recently had to undergo a shoulder surgery. The surgery has left Suga unable to carry out promotional activities with the rest of BTS and even made his left arm unusable.
Why did Suga have to undergo a shoulder surgery?
On Nov. 3, Suga underwent surgery to repair an issue in his shoulder. A few days later, BTS’s company, Big Hit Entertainment, released a statement on Weverse about this event.
“Suga underwent surgery to repair his torn shoulder labrum on November 3,” the statement said. “The surgery, to address a problem that had constantly been a health and wellness issue for Suga, was completed successfully, and he is currently resting and recovering following his physician’s advice that SUGA must undergo a strict and unhindered period of recovery.”
Suga previously injured his shoulder in 2012 as well as 2019, and Jimin even noted that this recent surgery would allow Suga to continue working with BTS for much longer.

Suga has been spending the past two months recovering from the surgery. On a recent live stream, Suga shares with fans that he has been doing physical therapy at a hospital to regain as much use of his arm as possible.
“I work out continuously, such as with band exercises,” he says. “In the hospital where I had surgery, they don’t force me to extend the motion range, so I’m only using my arm to the extent that I can move.”
Suga also tells fans to not worry about him, though he also shares that he still cannot use his left arm very much.
“I can’t use my left arm properly,” he admits. “I can’t lift anything properly right now, like heavy objects.”
However, he reveals that he was able to play rock-paper-scissors right after the surgery.
Suga was reportedly seen at a commercial filming site recently

Suga has noticeably been absent from promotional activities with the rest of BTS, and Big Hit has not yet shared when fans can expect to see him working again.
Yet, things are looking positive because Suga was reportedly seen on a commercial set a few days before Christmas. BTS was filming a commercial, and it looks like Suga was participating as well. These are only speculations, of course, though fans seemed to be excited at the thought of Suga returning.
During his live stream, Suga also said that he could appear on Big Hit’s New Year’s Eve Live event. Suga shared, “I’m recovering well, so I think I can appear on New Year’s Eve Live, but I can’t perform right now. I can’t hold the mic with my left arm. I guess I can hold it with my right arm.”
