K-pop girl group gugudan have officially announced their disbandment, with December 31st, 2020 being their last day as an act.
While we’re all glad that 2020 has left us (or is still in the process of, in some parts of the world), it goes not without giving us heartache. After just four years in the industry, K-pop girl group gugudan have officially announced their disbandment.
The group’s agency, Jellyfish Entertainment, released a statement apologizing for the sudden news and marking December 31st, 2020 as their last day.
“All the members of gugudan have been working hard and receiving a lot of love since their debut, but after a long and in-depth discussion, we have decided they will officially end their group activities on December 31, 2020.” the statement said.
Later on, the group’s leader Hana took to their official fan-cafe to share an emotional parting letter with fans.
“Do you remember the swelteringly hot summer of 2016? Even now, I can’t forget the first time that gugudan stepped on stage and met Danjjaks [gugudan’s official fandom].” She wrote. “I think I’ll remember it for the rest of my life. The days I spent as gugudan’s Hana, promoting together with the other members, were a truly precious time in my life.”
She then went on to thank the group’s fans for their ‘unsparing’ support, which made them ‘dream bigger’.
“Today was a day when I recalled my past memories clearly, one page a time, as if I were looking through old photos. I’m grateful that when I think of my beloved gugudan members and Danjjaks, I find myself smiling instead of sighing.” She wrote.
“Although I’m extremely sad that due to COVID-19, we are unable to meet in person, please take care of your health, and I hope we can meet again in the future no matter what. To all of you who stayed by gugudan’s side, supporting and loving us like inseparable best friends, I sincerely thank you with all my heart.” the statement read.
