Have yourself a merry little Christmas because after Jimin, BTS’ V has dropped a surprise Christmas single ‘Snow Flower’.
What’s better than one BTS member wishing you Merry Christmas through a surprise single? Having two BTS members drop surprise singles to celebrate the Christmas spirit! Joy to the world, indeed.
BTS’ V — who will also celebrate his birthday on December 30th, like a true Winter Baby — dropped a single titled ‘Snow Flower’ just ahead of Christmas Day. Joining him on the track is fellow musician and friend Peakboy, who plays guitar and drums, as well as vocals.
Keeping in line with the ethos of V’s solo music so far — he released the soothing track ‘Winter Bear’ last year, and also featured on the original soundtrack for the hit drama Itaewon Class with the dreamy and comforting ‘Sweet Night’ — the track is a slow homage to the beauty of winter.
More than that, it’s also a love letter to the company that makes a cold season warm. ‘Christmas without you would just not be Christmas at all/ Bright mistletoe up above us/ It’s just you and me.’.
Interestingly, while the rest of the world bookmarks Christmas as a time for family, it is generally a day for couples in South Korean culture.
In a blog post, V — real name Kim Taehyung — wished that the song would bring comfort to people in this isolated year, saying: “This year feels like a stopped time, and as the end of the year approaches, I think there will be a lot of people with increased anxiety and depression.”
“For today, I hope that white flowers will come down to your hearts and feel a little warm comfort and happiness.” he said.
V’s single was second in the line of surprises by BTS members this Christmas. Member Jimin also dropped a surprise track of his own, titled ‘Christmas Love’. The peppy song chronicled Jimin’s memories of childhood, which he penned as a hopeful beacon to simpler times.
“As you can tell by the lyrics, this song contains the emotions I felt in one of my favorite childhood memories, which is when I first saw thick snow falling,” he wrote in his own blog post.
“I think that as we grow, we really grow to miss our childhood. Regardless of the whether it’s this kind of situation or not, I think that we remember our pure, innocent selves of the past and want to return to those days.” he said.
