K-pop girlband Gugudan has disbanded after four years together.
Their agency, Jellyfish Entertainment, confirmed the news that the group would be splitting, following two years of inactivity.
A statement on Gugudan’s official fan site read: ‘This is Jellyfish Entertainment. First of all, we’d like to thank the fans for loving and supporting gugudan. We would like to give you our official position regarding their group activities.
‘All the members of gugudan have been working hard and receiving a lot of love since their debut, but after a long and in-depth discussion, we have decided they will officially end their group activities on December 31, 2020.

‘Although their group activities are over, we will do our best to provide full support for their individual activities such as music and acting. Thank you once again for your great support, and we sincerely apologise for the sudden news to the fans who love gugudan.
‘Lastly, please continue to show warm love and interest to the members who are about to make a fresh start. Thank you.’
It is believed that members Mimi, Hana, Haebin, Nayoung, Sejeong, Sally, Soyee and Mina will all be remaining under contract at Jellyfish but as solo artists.
Ninth member Hyeyeon left the band in 2018.
After Nayoung, Sejeong and Mina were introduced as Jellyfish’s first female trainees on the 2016 series of Produce 101, Gugudan was formed that June, while the band I.O.I (of which Sejeong and Mina were members) was on a break or promoting sub units.
Gugudan debuted on June 28 with Act. 1 The Little Mermaid and their first song Wonderland, leading with a mermaid concept.
Their second mini-album, Act. 2 Narcissus, came the following year, and was followed by the single album Act. 3 Chococo Factory.
Guguan released their second single album Act. 4 Cait Sith and their third EP, Act. 5 New Action, in 2018, but remained inactive since November 2018.
Over their run, the subunits Gugudan 5959, made up of Mina and Hyeyeon, and Gugudan SeMiNa, made up of Sejeong, Mina and Nayoung, also released music.
Earlier this year, Sally became a member of the temporary girl group BonBon Girls 303 after coming sixth on Produce Camp 2020.
Fans of the band have wished the members of Gugudan well in their future careers on social media.
