"Mi Barrio," Chilean TV Show Under Fire for Racist Parody of BTS

On April 11, a Chilean TV show called "Mi Barrio" has come under fire for airing a performance that shows a racist parody of BTS.

In the "parody", the cast was wearing similar outfits to BTS's "DNA" era, while their hair was from the "Boy With Luv" era.

During the skit, the cast was acting out an interview during a late-night show. However, when they were asked to introduce themselves, they started saying their names were "Kim Jung One," which is similar sounding to Kim Jong Un, "Kim Jung Two," "Kim Jung Three," "Kim Jung Four," and then "Juan Carlos."

When they were asked to "speak Korean," one of the cast members spoke in Chinese and said he got the vaccine.

The so-called parody angered many fans worldwide for its racist undertones, with many wondering how they considered the skit to be comedy and how they can be so proud of airing such performance.

Fans began trending the hashtag "#RacistIsNotComedy" along with the hashtag "#StopAsianHate", and have demanded both an explanation and an apology for the racist peformance.
