There’s just no escaping BTS (not that we’re complaining): ‘Dynamite’ has just smashed the one billion views mark on YouTube.
It’s not really surprising, is it? As per Billboard, ‘Dynamite’ has been performing well all over the shop recently. The worldwide hit spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 last year and also broke the record for the most weeks at number one on the Billboard Digital Song Sales Chart, spending a mammoth 18 weeks there.
Now over the weekend, ‘Dynamite’ hit that rarified one billion views mark on YouTube, joining songs by other superstars like Taylor Swift (‘Blank Space’), Ed Sheeran (‘Perfect’), and Katy Perry (‘Dark Horse’) to reach it. Premiering last August, at the time of writing, it now has 1,005,193,201 views on YouTube. BTS’s achievement also means that they’re the fastest K-pop group to make it that level yet.
It’s the icing on the cake really, considering the monster that is ‘Dynamite’. The song racked up a record three million concurrent viewers during its premiere alone. It then swiftly became the fastest music video to reach 10 million views in, unbelievably, the first 20 minutes of release. That’s like everyone in Melbourne and Sydney watching in the same timeframe which is just absolutely staggering.
Want some more record-setting facts about ‘Dynamite’? We thought so. The Grammy-nominated hit has the most YouTube views in the first 24 hours (a casual 101.1 million). It’s the fastest video by an Asian act to reach 500 million, taking a mere 59 days (the same length it took this writer to finally purge his gmail inbox).
And incredibly it’s not BTS’s first video to reach the billion high club. ‘Boy With Luv’, their duet with Halsey, and ‘DNA’ also achieved that feat. How long will it take ‘Dynamite’ to make it to two billion views? I reckon give it a few weeks.
